Octagon Unitarian Chapel, Norwich

Communities:

The Octagon is forming links with other communities and congregations.

We have special links with the Unitarian Church in Marosvasarhely in Romania, and have enjoyed exchange visits between the two churches.

We also have close contacts with the Unitarian Universalist Church in Norfolk, Virginia, USA, and enjoy occasional visits from one of their members, Will Frank.

We have also formed a friendship with our local Church of England congregation at St George, Colegate, and enjoy an annual joint service with them. These are held alternately between the two churches, and are followed by very enjoyable lunches.

We also have links with the other Unitarian congregation in Norfolk, at Old Meeting, Great Yarmouth.

Some members of the Octagon congregation are active within local Unitarian societies, including the Eastern Union Committee and the Eastern Union Women's Group.

Several members of the Octagon are very active in teaching English to classes of asylum seekers. These classes take place in the Martineau Hall, and there are currently twenty-five students registered, some of whom also benefit from the child-care facilities.

The Hapton Unitarian Chapel Heritage Site, Hapton, Norfolk has been restored by the Octagon community. For the first time on Sunday 9 September 2007 a service was held, and it was followed by a picnic. It is hoped that this will become an annual event. The site is open for all to visit.
